10 to 12 Days in Rajasthan: The Complete Circuit

Every headline stop, plus a hill-station finish

About this route

This is the plan for a trip rather than a taster: all the fort cities, a night in the desert, the lakes of Udaipur, and a cooler finish in the Aravalli hills at Mount Abu. Built around the genuine travel times between cities, so no day asks for more driving than is comfortable.

It flexes either way. Drop Mount Abu and fly the Jaisalmer–Udaipur leg to bring it down to 10 days, or add a night in Ranthambore or Bundi at the start to stretch it to 12.

Day by day

Day 1Arrive in Jaipur

Transfer to your hotel; evening in the old-city bazaars.

Day 2Jaipur

Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal.

Day 3Jaipur to Jodhpur, via Pushkar and Ajmer

The lake and Brahma Temple at Pushkar, and the Ajmer Sharif dargah, break up the drive to Jodhpur.

Travel: Jaipur to Pushkar: about 145 km. Pushkar to Jodhpur: about 190 km. Reckon on 6 to 7 hours total with both stops.

Day 4Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, and the blue lanes and Sardar Market of the old city.

Day 5Jodhpur to Jaisalmer

A desert drive west, with the 8th-century Osian temples as a stop along the way.

Travel: Jodhpur to Jaisalmer: about 285 to 300 km, 5 to 6 hours.

Day 6Jaisalmer and the Sam dunes

The fort, the havelis and Gadisar Lake by day; a camel ride and a night at a desert camp.

Day 7Jaisalmer to Udaipur

The long leg of the route. Drive it in a full day, or fly where a seasonal route is operating.

Travel: About 490 to 590 km by road (9 to 10 hours), or roughly an hour by the occasional seasonal flight.

Day 8Udaipur

City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon ki Bari, and a sunset boat on Lake Pichola.

Day 9Udaipur to Mount Abu

Into the Aravalli hills, with the marble Ranakpur Jain temple as a stop on the way. Evening at Nakki Lake.

Travel: Udaipur to Mount Abu: about 165 to 185 km, 4 hours, plus time at Ranakpur.

Day 10Mount Abu

The Dilwara Jain temples, Guru Shikhar, and sunset at one of the viewpoints.

Day 11Depart

Drive down to Udaipur for your flight out.

Travel: Mount Abu to Udaipur airport: about 3.5 hours.

Practical tips

  • Book the private car for the whole circuit rather than city by city — it's simpler to coordinate and usually works out cheaper than re-booking at each stop.
  • If you're trimming to 10 days, drop Mount Abu before you shorten anywhere else — it's the one stop that isn't on the direct Jaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer–Udaipur line.
  • December and January are the most comfortable months for the whole route, but also the most expensive — book hotels and the desert camp well ahead.
  • Carry warm layers for both the desert camp night and Mount Abu's cooler evenings.

FAQs

Is 10 days enough to see all of Rajasthan?

Ten to twelve days covers the main circuit well — Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Mount Abu. 'All of Rajasthan' is a bigger ask than any single trip; this route covers what most visitors mean by it.

How do I trim this to 10 days?

Drop Mount Abu and fly the Jaisalmer–Udaipur leg where a flight is running. That removes two travel days without cutting any of the headline cities.

What would I add to stretch this to 12 days?

A night in Ranthambore for a tiger safari at the start, or Bundi on the way back from Chittorgarh if you route through there, are the two most natural additions.

Is a private car realistic for 11 days of driving?

Yes — it's the normal way to do this circuit. The daily legs are long in places (Jaisalmer–Udaipur especially), but none of them are unreasonable for a full day in a private car with a driver.
