5 Days in Rajasthan: Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur
The three headline cities, without a long circuit
About this route
This is the fastest sensible way to see Rajasthan's three signature cities. It flies into Jaipur and out of Udaipur (or the reverse), with one travel day between each stop, so you're never doing two long drives back to back.
It leaves out Jaisalmer and the desert, which need an extra two to three days each way to do properly. If you have more time, the 7-day or 11-day routes below add that in.
Day by day
Day 1Arrive in Jaipur
Transfer to your hotel. Evening at leisure — a walk to Hawa Mahal and the Johari or Bapu Bazaar lanes works well if you land with daylight left.
Day 2Jaipur
Amber Fort in the morning before the crowds, then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal from the inside. Afternoon free for the bazaars.
Day 3Jaipur to Jodhpur
A travel day. Check into your Jodhpur hotel by evening and take an early look at the old blue city or the view up to Mehrangarh.
Travel: Jaipur to Jodhpur: about 335 km, 5.5 to 6 hours by road.
Day 4Jodhpur, then on to Udaipur
Mehrangarh Fort first thing, then Jaswant Thada, before the drive to Udaipur. It's a long day — start the fort visit at opening time to keep the afternoon free for the road.
Travel: Jodhpur to Udaipur: about 260 km, 5 to 6 hours, with Ranakpur or Kumbhalgarh as a detour if you have an extra hour or two to spare.
Day 5Udaipur, then depart
A relaxed morning — the City Palace or a lake walk — before your transfer to Udaipur airport.

Practical tips
- Do Amber Fort and Mehrangarh Fort at opening time — both get hot and crowded by late morning.
- If you're travelling December to February, the early-morning drive to Udaipur can be cold; dress for it.
- Book the Jaipur-in, Udaipur-out flights before you fix hotel dates — one-way domestic fares vary a lot by date.
- A private car for the whole route is far more comfortable than switching vehicles city to city, and isn't much more than trains once you count transfers.
FAQs
Is 5 days enough for Rajasthan?
It's enough to see Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur properly, which is the most-asked-for combination. It isn't enough to add Jaisalmer and the desert as well — that needs a 7-day or longer route.
Should I fly into Jaipur and out of Udaipur, or start in Udaipur?
Either works. Starting in Jaipur (usually the better-connected airport) and ending in Udaipur is the more common direction, but reversing it changes nothing about the route itself.
Can this be done by train instead of a private car?
Yes, there are trains between all three cities, but a private car is faster door to door once you count station transfers and lets you stop at viewpoints along the way.
