Rishikesh
Yoga capital on a fast green river
Why go
Rishikesh works on two speeds. There's the still one — sunrise yoga, a silent meditation session, the Ganga aarti at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan as the lamps go down the river. And there's the fast one — a half-day rafting trip through grade III rapids, a bungee jump, a cliff walk. Most people want a bit of both. It's an easy add-on to a Delhi trip or the start of a Char Dham or Valley of Flowers journey into Uttarakhand.
Trip highlights
- Ganga aarti at Parmarth Niketan or Triveni Ghat
- White-water rafting from Shivpuri or Marine Drive
- The Beatles Ashram and its painted halls
- Sunrise yoga and a guided meditation session
